The Suffering Servant

The story of Easter foretold by Isaiah

The Suffering Servant. Isaiah’s prophecy. Written out as an exercise in 1987.        (Practice, Positive Practice).

Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?

For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Happy New Year from Bill’s Space.

Happy New Year 201831122017_00001

Wishing all my friends, wherever you are, a Happy, Peaceful, and Prosperous New Year and that your Calligraphy skills will take you to new levels over the next 12 months.

This year, a bit of brushwork, not too badly executed for an old boy who has recently undergone cataract surgery on both eyes and has not yet been prescribed new specs.  More on this later but I am hoping to be back to my old self by the end of January and will soon be able to pick up where I left off and spend more time concocting a lesson or two.

Keep watching this space.

Our Calligraphy Group at the Luton Irish Forum, Four Year Anniversary

LIF new poster

It seems like only yesterday but I was reminded that it is four years today since Noelette, CO of Luton Irish Forum, gave us the chance to set up what might be the only Calligraphy Group in  Bedfordshire or perhaps even further afield. Since then many have come and gone but our little band has grown and continues to flourish (excuse the pun), with three more beginners just this week. It seems we have become a wee community of great friends among the greater community which is LIF.

We are never happier than when we have an ongoing project. Members always asking for another banner or some-such thing to work on. Here are a few projects we have  enjoyed sharing over this period.

Due to the nature of my blog editing software the pics may be a little out of order but you will see that we have had some great fun over the years. Thanks again to all at LIF, members past and present, not forgetting our late great friend and Fine Artist, the Hat Man, Richard Lees.

I thought you might like to see the work of an old acquaintance I met again recently at the funeral of a mutual friend. I have been amazed by the quality of her images. Especially the Icons which are her real passion. Enjoy and please follow the Blog.

Hello, nice to meet you.

This is a collection of pictures which I have painted over many years. Some are icons, some seascapes. Most I still have, but a considerable number have found their way to other homes over the years; Russia, Alaska, the US, Australia and mostly the UK. They are in chapels, churches and privately owned by bishops, priests and lay people.

The majority of the icons are derived from existing images, the older, the better, but there are a few which are more modern, and painted from photographs.

I am an Anglican. I paint on canvas with acrylic, which is not the traditional way to paint icons but my little saints don’t seem to mind. I write the name of the person depicted on the front in paint, and only sign my name on the back in pencil when I am sending it to a new home…

Have a Happy and Peaceful and Prosperous New Year

Let us hope that 2017 gets it’s act together straight from January 1st. and demands that we, poor misguided masses, are fed some good old words of truth for a change, rather than the weasel words of gobbledegook we have been fed by media and politicians all through 2016. (Perhaps I should amend that to all through history) Now, with all the optimism and anticipation I can muster, I am ready to take a peek into a New Year where Peace and Truth and Compassion and Humility and Love and Laughter, will, hopefully, at last become the norm.
The worldwide locations of Bill’s Space visitors and how you are forced to live (and die)  have been a great deal on my mind and I hope that all those same things will come to you, that  is, PEACE,TRUTH, COMPASSION, HUMILITY, LOVE, LAUGHTER, and, of course,  all those things that you wish yourselves.
I would like to thank you all for your continued support. Bill’s Space visitor numbers now total over 390,000, If you look at my clustrmap you will see a dot where you are. I look at those dots everyday and sometimes am able to put a name to those with whom I have become familiar over the years. I hope I have been able to show you a thing or two.
Thanks also to all in the LIF calligraphy group, I see the makings of a great future for the calligraphic arts in Luton. The  local, Luton art scene, many of whom have been along to the Luton Irish Forum calligraphy classes or expressed a wish to join us at some time. To Noelette and all at the Forum for continuing to afford us these amazing facilities. We have gone a long way over the last year. I promise that my very next blog will be to look back at what we, and our very talented crew have been up to.
Keep watching this space.

Christmas Greetings from Bill’s Space to all my friends wherever you may be.
